I got my 97 Savage because 1)it was remarkably cheap, 2)it was a thumper, with lots of grunt from right off idle, quite different from my last bike, a 4-cylinder pocket rocket that didn't make enough power to get out of its own way until 6000 rpm, 3)belt drive. I've had my fill of chains, oil, adjustment, cleaning, etc. Shaft drives get rid of the maintenance issues, but handle kind of weird. 4)it was red.
I've since gone on to a 2003 Honda Silverwing primarily because the light weigh and minimal aerodynamics of the Savage made it frightening on the highway at speeds over 60 mph. The S'wing feels firmly planted at speeds up to 90mph. Some day I'll see if that top speed of 110 is for real.
Ride far, ride safe.
